If you suspect you might have diabetes, the first thing to do is to visit a doctor, which will be able to diagnose properly your symptoms (and whether or not they're related to diabetes). The definite way to know it is to perform a blood analysis.
Once you've diabetes diagnosed, you'll know what type and in what degree you've it. In most cases, it will only require you to follow an special diet, but it's important to fully follow the doctor advice, as it's a condition which effects are hardly reversible.
There are some cures for diabetes with promising results. In the case of Type 1 diabetes, there has been success with pancreas transplantation, although it will require the use of drugs to prevent the body rejection of the new organ. There are some good prospects on stem cell research that promise a better cure for this type of diabetes.
In the case of Type 2 diabetes, the treatment consists on a surgery to remove a portion of the intestine. Performing this surgery will greatly improve the condition and life expectancy of the patient.
